Senior Research Analyst

Matt Hollands (he/him) joined Figure 8 in August 2024 as a Senior Research Analyst, bringing deep expertise in both traditional financial disciplines and sustainable investment strategies to his work at Figure 8.  Matt plays an integral role in Figure 8’s research team, analyzing public and private companies across multiple sectors. His primary focus is on integrating climate and ESG factors into a growth-at-a-reasonable-price (GARP) methodology to identify sustainable investment opportunities. 

Before joining Figure 8, Matt spent over a decade as a Senior Portfolio Manager and Research Analyst at Wells Fargo's Social Impact Investing team, where he was part of a team managing approximately $2B in assets, incorporating fundamental and sustainability factors into the investment process. Earlier in his career, Matt worked as an Institutional Research Associate Analyst at D.A. Davidson’s Equity Capital Markets, specializing in covering the Banks & Thrifts industry. 

Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Oregon, is a CFA® charterholder and is an active member of the CFA Society of Portland. As Figure 8’s first Portland-based team member, Matt is an Oregon native who enjoys running the city’s trails and spending time at local coffee shops with a good book. Matt guest lectures at the University of Oregon, teaching students about integrating impact and sustainability into the investment process. He has also taught personal finance & entrepreneurial classes for high school students, helping them build a foundation in financial literacy. When not immersed in markets or sustainability themes, he spends time outdoors and with his family – which includes being a full-time uncle to four nieces and one nephew.
